POINTS FOR GOOD

‘Points for Good’ is a charity platform with a difference, it allows donors to donate their airline points, Loyalty Reward Points, employee rewards as well as the regular payment options through credit/ debit cards and UPI, connecting a community of “goodness”, by supporting causes which promote education, health, sport, music and art, protect the environment and champion animal welfare.

Since launch in 2017, ‘Points for Good’ has succeeded in re-purposing more than 50 million loyalty points towards good causes.

The ‘Points for Good’ platform taps into the vast pool of unredeemed loyalty points (in India, ~INR 1,200 crore issued annually by banks alone, and globally, over US$ 300 billion). In general, 30-40% of all such points lapse without being used.

We look forward to the support of our alumni either through your own loyalty points or through your organisations.

ROCKET LEARNING

More than 60 million low-income Indians aged 6 and younger are falling behind wealthier kids because of a lack of educational resources. Social entrepreneurs Namya Mahajan (MBA 2022) and Azeez Gupta (MBA 2019) are closing the gap with Rocket Learning, an early-years ed-tech nonprofit that has connected 50,000 teachers and 1 million children using locally relevant audiovisual content. Rocket partners with government daycare systems through a WhatsApp bot that facilitates a network of 70,000 digital parentteacher communities by providing developmentally appropriate lessons, facilitating community support, and tracking progress.

Offering a host of videos crossing language and cultural backgrounds that are simple enough for relatively uneducated parents to understand, the company aims to break the cycle of poverty and help the next generation get ahead. The average child in a Rocket Learning cohort attains skills at the top third of a non-RL class at the cost of 50c/child/year. Rocket Learning is part of the Indian government’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Taskforce and UNICEF’s working group for Foundational Learning. Their innovations in promoting early learning have been profiled in Harvard Business School, UNESCO and Forbes case studies, researched by MIT-JPAL and Brookings, and awarded by MIT Solve and the WEF.

HBS INDIA CLASS OF 2007 INITIATIVE

Free Covid- 19 Vaccination Camp

Salawas Panchayat, Jodhpur 2021

VACCINATE THE VILLAGE

After the second wave of Covid hit India hard, India residents of HBS Class of 2007 got together and ran an initiative in collaboration with Government of Rajasthan to vaccinate the villages. The initiative had dual objectives - to provide equitable access to vaccines in rural communities, and to build a ‘smart’ vaccination model which can allow micro-communities to achieve herd immunity (70% vaccination).

12 villages were identified in Jodhpur district, and a three-way partnership model was created with district administration of Jodhpur and private hospital. HBS Class of 2007 committed to provide funds for vaccine procurement, Goyal Hospital offered to source vaccines and Government committed to provide administrative and outreach support in villages.

We conducted fundraising efforts in mid June with concerted outreach to our section mates, and professors. Our class was able to raise $77K USD in two weeks which provided support for 8,000 vaccines. In July, vaccination camps in 3 panchayats of Jodhpur serving 12 villages were organized in a short span of a week by a focused effort of 18 member cross functional team. 6,900 vaccines were administered, taking 18+ age vaccinated population from 41% to 78% in the villages. With the remaining funds, additional 1,350 vaccine support is planned.

ENSURING SUPPLY AND HOME DELIVERY OF ESSENTIAL COVID RELATED MEDICINES AND OXYGEN COCENTRATORS

Akshay Nalavadi

Akshay Nalavadi (HBS MBA 2013)

HEALTHSKOOL PHARMACY

Healthskool Pharmacy, a chain of pharmacies in New Delhi founded by Akshay Navaladi (MBA 2013), has been working round the clock delivering medicines, oxygen concentrators and medical supplies to patients at their doorstep all over India. The second wave was especially intense, and in the face of supplier credit drying up and shortages across the board of even basic medicines, the company innovated with various supply chain startegies to stay in stock so that frantic caregivers could get what they need for their infected loved ones.

Since the pandemic began, the 5 year old startup has touched the lives of over half a million Covid patients in India and has even exported medicines to dozens of hard hit countries in Asia and Africa who had to deal with shortages and access problems.

Anuj Maheswari (HBS MBA 2006)

Managing Director of Investment, Temasek

RACING AGAINST THE PANDEMIC TO SAVE LIVES

Temasek's involvement in rescue effort for the second wave of COVID-19 began on April 19th with a WhatsApp SOS from a business partner to Anuj Maheshwari (HBS MBA 2006), Managing Director of Investment.

Led by Singapore based Maheshwari along with a dedicated group of volunteers, Temasek's extensive network for oxygen supplies was mobilised overnight. The bigger challenge was getting this equipment to where they were most needed — and fast.

That's when a “miracle” fell into place. Check the link below to read more about how the initiative secured and airlifted around 8,200 oxygen concentrators, 1,300 BiPAP positive airway pressure machines, 51,000 oximeters, and 37 AMTH's ICU-grade Alpha ventilators equipped with remote monitoring and control capabilities, for distribution to hospitals and COVID centres across the country. Click Here

FREE MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE BY TINDER DURING THE THIRD WAVE IN INDIA

Taru Kapoor (HBS MBA 2015)

General Manager - Tinder & Match Group

HELPING GEN Z WITH MENTAL HEALTH

Ever since the pandemic started, things have been hard. The second wave earlier this year brought unprecedented pain, grief, anxiety and loss to nearly everyone. Tinder’s community in India comprises of millions of young people, who have had nearly every facet of their lives disrupted in the past year. Between isolation, sickness, economic hardship and worry for the loved ones, the impact on mental health has been immense. We were working on increasing support options for our employees and their families when we realized that all our members are in the exact same space and many do not have access to mental health resources. There is still considerable stigma around mental health and affordability is another issue, especially for young folks. We partnered with Visit Health and announced free mental health resources for ALL Tinder members in India.

This includes 2 free therapy sessions per person and heavily subsidized subsequent sessions till Dec 31, 2021, as well as resources such as guided meditations, podcasts, fitness videos and other content curated by experts. Click Here
