This year the HBS Club of India and the HBS India Research Centre have launched a new series of conversations called "Entrepreneurs Unplugged". Entrepreneurship is a key area of study at HBS. Our research is focused on the identification and pursuit of entrepreneurial opportunities; domestic and international funding of entrepreneurial ventures; innovation, specifically technological innovation in international ventures; the eco systems in which entrepreneurs make decisions; and social entrepreneurship.

The aim of this series is to set up a small intimate 10-15 person interaction over tea/coffee for HBS alumni with Founders of start-ups and entrepreneurs of large companies who have been able to scale and develop successful businesses across a spectrum of industries. We are hoping that the discussion enables all of us to hear anecdotes of their journey through the process of building a business - challenges, failures, milestones and aha moments. We are confident that this will provide invaluable insights and a deep dive into the eco system of entrepreneurship in India.

We are delighted to present our second conversation in this series with Ashish Goel, Co-Founder Urban Ladder in Bangalore. From McKinsey, to Amar Chitra Katha and thereon to starting up at Urban Ladder, Ashish Goel’s professional progression bears no sign of being conventional. A graduate from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Ashish worked with Mckinsey for four years and then moved on to Amar Chitra Katha Media as its Chief Operating Officer. Prior to founding Urban Ladder in January 2012, he served as MD of India Book House. Urban Ladder strives to provide good quality, well-designed, competitively priced and dependable furniture online. Indo-US Venture Partners, Kalaari Capital, SAIF Partners, Steadview Capital and Sequoia Capital are investors in the start up. It also roped in Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata as an investor in November 2014.
